Feature and Follow #1

Today, I'm participating in Feature and Follow, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This is my first ever time participating in Feature and Follow, so i'm a little rusty.  But, basically it's a fun weekly blog hop where you get to interact with fellow book bloggers, thus gaining friends and followers.  The directions are basically as follows: You follow the hosts, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Make a post that answers that week's prompt, and link it up on either one of the hosts' blogs. Then, go follow and make friends with as many other participating book bloggers as you'd like.  To see the complete directions, click here.
As far as following me, I prefer Bloglovin.

This week's question is:
How do you decide what books to read? – So Many Books, So Little Time

Goodreads is a really great tool in discovering new books, I LOVE Goodreads and am on there all the time.  It's really helpful to read the reviews and see what other people thought of a book before I buy it.  Also, if a lot of bloggers I follow have been raving about a book, I'm more likely to pick it up, seeing as it comes highly recommended.
I also get tons of ideas and recommendations from bloggers (of course) but also book vloggers.  I LOVE watching "booktube" videos and you get so many great recommendations and ideas!
As far as deciding what to read off my actual bookshelf, it kind of varies.  I'm a mood reader, so it all depends on my mood.  You won't see many monthly TBR's here.  Sometimes, I'm in a mood for something darker or something with an assassin.  Then, I'll scour my shelves to find all my fantasy books.  Sometimes, (especially in spring & summer) I just want a cute contemporary.  And i'll end up digging out a book that's been sitting on my shelf for a year.
I am more likely to read a book sooner if it's a new release.  That way, I'm reading it when it comes out, when everyone else is reading it, and I can have my review up in a timely fashion.  Also, it gets annoying when everyone is talking about a new book and you haven't read it yet.
Also, if a book is being made into a movie, that automatically rockets it to the top of my TBR.
As far as deciding what books to buy, it really depends.  Sometimes I'll be SO EXCITED for a book to come out, and time goes by and before I know it it's a year later and I still haven't bought or read it.  Usually, though, the books I end up buying and reading are the ones I am most excited about.  And that may sound kind of obvious and simple, but it's true.

That was kind of long and ranty, but this was fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again next week!

  2. Goodreads has been essential to me finding new books, and even finding books that are similar in taste to what I'm in the mood to read.

    1. I haven't checked out the lists much, but I do love the quotes! I've added so many quotes to "my quotes", I can't even keep track anymore.
