Top Ten Tuesday: 2015 Fantasy/Sci-Fi Upcoming Releases

Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish.
This week’s topic is… Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For the Rest of 2015

AHHH.  This was so hard!  There are so many more releases I’m anticipating and they wouldn’t all fit!  So, as I was making this I realized that I could do 10 of just Fantasy and Sci-Fi.
So, these are just the Sci-Fi and Fantasy releases for the rest of 2015 that I’m most anticipating.  Also, I put them in order for you, soonest to latest!

Maybe I’ll do a second part for Dystopian and Contemporary sometime later.  Also, I’ve included small excerpts from the Goodreads synopsis for each book.  To read the full synopsis, click the Goodreads link.

Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman
Release Date: August 25th
Genres: Fantasy

“Weaving fantasy with the salacious and fascinating details of real history, New York Times bestselling author Eleanor Herman reimagines the greatest emperor the world has ever known: Alexander the Great, in the first book of the Blood of Gods and Royals series.

This is the first book in a new series and it sounds so good!  It’s an Alexander the Great retelling!  Which I’m sure is just as awesome as it sounds.  I can’t say I’ve ever seen or read of an Alexander retelling and I LOVE RETELLINGS.  I’m seriously excited for this one, and I don’t have very long to wait.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
Release Date: August 27th
Genres: Fantasy
“What if you aren’t the Chosen One?
The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?
Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

I think this is such a cool concept.  In YA, we read all of the time about heroes and heroines who are destined to save the world.   But, what about a story where the main character isn’t the one who ends up saving the world?  What if he’s just a completely normal guy who just stands by and watches?  I think it’s such a cool idea and I think it will make the story so much more realistic and relatable.
Also, time to weigh in: do you like the US cover (pictured above) or the UK version (you can find it on Goodreads) better?  Because I love both.

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
Release Date: September 1st
Genres: Fantasy
“Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world

GUYS.  GUYS.  THRONE OF GLASS 4.  IT’S COMING.  ALSO THESE COVERS.  AND DID CELAENA CUT HER HAIR?
I haven’t read the synopsis myself because of spoilers and I’m not caught up on the series.  BUT THIS IS MY FAV SERIES AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.  I’M GETTING SAD THAT QoS MEANS WE’RE MORE THAN HALFWAY DONE. *SOBS*

Walk on Earth A Stranger by Rae Carson
Release Date: September 22nd
Genres: Fantasy
“A young woman with the magical ability to sense the presence of gold must flee her home, taking her on a sweeping and dangerous journey across Gold Rush–era America
Walk on Earth a Stranger, the first book in this new trilogy, introduces—as only Rae Carson can—a strong heroine, a perilous road, a fantastical twist, and a slow-burning romance”

I’ve been wanting to read a Rae Carson book for a long time, and this seems like a great place to start.  I love the setting of “gold rush-era America” and the “slow burning romance” YES.  Plus, THAT COVER.  Although I don't like the strange girl at the top.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Release Date: September 29th
Genres: Fantasy
“Game of Thrones meets Ocean's Eleven in this brand-new book in the world of the Grisha by New York Times-bestselling author Leigh Bardugo.
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first”

Okay.  Where do I even start with this one?  I ADORE heist books and I love fantasy and CAN THIS BOOK GET ANY BETTER??  Sometimes you come across a book and are like “wow.  this book must have been written for me!”  Yep.   That’s Six of Crows.  Plus the main character is a “criminal prodigy”?  THIS JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER.

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
Release Date: October 6th
Genres: Fantasy, Mythology
“The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

Does this one really need an explanation?  I am a huge Rick Riordan fan and I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS.  WHAT GOD IS HE THE CHILD OF??  And of course, in typical Rick fashion, poor Magnus is searching NINE worlds for a weapon that nobody’s ever been able to find.  Also, check this out - is Rick just messing with us?

“When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .
 “

I SWEAR TO THE GODS RICK, YOU BETTER BE KIDDING.

The Rose Society by Marie Lu
Release Date: October 13th
Genres: Fantasy
“Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.”

Doesn’t that just give you the chills?  SO AWESOME.  DESTROY THEM ALL, ADELINA.
Anyways, i’ve been waiting for The Rose Society for SO LONG.   I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED The Young Elites and I can’t wait to continue on with Adelina down her dark path to villainy.

Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
Release Date: October 20th
Genres: Sci-Fi
“Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

This just sounds like such a cool and unique book.  I love books that tell the story in defferent ways and through different formats.  I really like the series that Amie Kauffman co-writes, Starbound (which we’ll see more about later) and I am SO EXCITED for Illuminae!

Winter by Marissa Meyer
Release Date: November 10th
Genres: Sci-Fi, Fantasy
"Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?"
THEY BETTER.
BUT SERIOUSLY I AM SO EXCITED.  THIS BOOK IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE 800 PAGES OR SOMETHING.  The Lunar Chronicles is one of my absolute FAVORITE series and while I’ll be sad to see it end, I need to know what happens!

Their Fractured Light by Amie Kauffman and Megan Spooner
Release Date: December 1st
Genres: Sci-Fi
“Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head.”

I’ve only read the first book but I’m still SO PUMPED.  Lilac & Tarver + Flynn & Jubilee!!  TAKE LRI DOWN!  Also, we’re getting two new characters again!

“When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide.

Bummer  that the cover isn’t released yet though L  BUT I’M SURE IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL.

Wow.  That was a lot of capslock. (also, please remember that I only did small portions of the synopsis.  Please check all of these lovely books out on Goodreads for more info!)
Anyways, that’s my top 10 Fantasy & Sci-Fi releases for the remainder of 2015.  This was a blast!  What book off my list are YOU most looking forward to? And don’t forget to leave me a link to your TTT.

  15. YES TO ALL OF THESE.

On one hand, I want both Their Fractured Light and Winter so badly, but on the other I don’t want them because that will mean admitting that both series is over. *cries* And yes to Queen of Shadows – Sarah J. Maas obviously can do no wrong; so I’m hoping this is just as good as her previous books.

And OMG you are going to freaking love Illuminae. I just finished it a few days ago and I still can’t get it out of my head. It’s so unique and original and I’m practically positive you’re going to love this one.

AND RICK BETTER NOT DISAPPOINT US - haha. ;)

Thank you for sharing and fabulous choices!
