Upcoming 2015 Releases Part 2: Contemporary, Dystopian, and Mystery

This week I’m going rogue.  I’m not doing the assigned Top Ten Tuesday topic.  I haven’t been doing this for long so the prompt doesn’t really apply to me.
Instead, I am going to do my Part 2 of the TTT from two weeks ago, which was Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For the Rest of 2015.  I only did Sci-Fi and Fantasy releases, though, because TOO MANY BOOKS.  So, this week I’m doing Contemporary,Dystopian, and Mystery

And, as always, Top 10 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish.

And same as before, I’ve included small excerpts from the Goodreads synopsis for each book. To read the full synopsis, click the Goodreads link.

Revolution of Ivy by Amy Engel

Release Date: November 3rd

Genres: Dystopian

“…when Bishop reappears in Ivy's life, she must decide if returning to Westfall to take a final stand for what she believes is right is worth losing everything she's fought for.

This is the sequel to The Book of Ivy, which I read last year and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by.  It leaves on a TERRIBLE cliffhanger, which was absolutely horrible and evil to do.  WHY do authors do this to us??  I feel so connected to these characters and this story and…just such intense emotion during the first book.
Also, I love how this cover matches with the first one.  I just love when there are people with knives on the cover.

Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid

Release Date: August 4th

Genres: Contemporary

Never date your best friend

Always be original

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken

Best friends Dave and Julia were determined to never be cliché high school kids… They even wrote their own Never List of everything they vowed they'd never, ever do in high school.

Julia is beautiful, wild and impetuous. So when she suggests they do every Never on the list, Dave is happy to play along. He even dyes his hair an unfortunate shade of green. It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they've actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

Doesn’t this just sound SO freaking cute?  Best friends going through this crazy list of high school clichés and DOING THEM ALL.   This seems like one of those contemporary novels that could be really cute and adorable but also impactful, you know?
I really really loved his first book, and this one sounds just as promising.
Also, this is going to be really repetitive, but isn't this cover cute?

Zeros by Scott Westerfeld

Release Date: September 29th

Genres: Dystopian (actually it might also be Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but I’m cheating)

“X-Men meets Heroes when New York Times bestselling author Scott Westerfeld teams up with award-winning authors Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti to create a sizzling new series filled with action and adventure.

Don’t call them heroes.

But these six Californian teens have powers that set them apart.

Filled with high-stakes action and drama, Zeroes unites three powerhouse authors for the opening installment of a thrilling new series.

More people with super powers!  YES.  That is one trend in YA that I CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF.  This sounds really good and I’m very intrigued.  I’ve wanted to read a book by Scott Westerfeld for so long because they all look so good.  Also, isn’t this cover so cool?

My Secret to Tell by Natalie D. Richards

Release Date: October 6th

Genres: Mystery

“The whole town believes notorious troublemaker Deacon is guilty of assaulting his father. Only Emmie knows a secret that could set him free. But if she follows her heart, she could be trusting a killer...
You can't always trust the boy next door.”
HOW IS THAT FOR A TWIST?  THAT KIND OF PUTS A DAMPER ON THE DATE YOU WERE GOING TO ASK HIM ON.
I’ve read both of Natalie Richards past two YA mystery books and really liked them both.  It’s REALLY HARD to find good YA books that are strictly mystery.  So, if you’re a mystery fan, definitely check her books out!
This one, like all of the others, sounds really good I wish it was coming out sooner.
Also, this book matches the other two.  SUCCESS.

Red Girl, Blue Boy by  Lauren Baratz-Logsted

Release Date: October 20th

Genres: Contemporary

“Sixteen-year-old Katie and Drew really shouldn't get along. After all, her father is the Republican nominee for President of the United States while his mother is at the top of the Democratic ticket. But when Katie and Drew are thrown together in a joint interview on a morning talk show, they can't ignore the chemistry between them. With an entire nation tuned into and taking sides in your parents' fight, and the knowledge that--ultimately--someone has to lose, how can you fall in love with the one person you're supposed to hate?

I really like Bloomsbury’s If Only series of contemporary novels and they are all really cute and I’ve enjoyed them.  This is the fifth one in the series and it will be interesting because I, personally, don’t know a whole lot about politics.  SO, it will be interesting to see if she includes that aspect.
Also, this kind of reminds me of a couple in a favorite series of mine, the Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter.  Macey and Preston anyone?  Although, I don’t think Katie and Drew are spies.   THAT WOULD BE GREAT THOUGH.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

Release Date: September 1st

Genres: Contemporary

“This innovative, heartfelt debut novel tells the story of a girl who’s literally allergic to the outside world. When a new family moves in next door, she begins a complicated romance that challenges everything she’s ever known. The narrative unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, texts, charts, lists, illustrations, and more.”

At first, I wasn’t too sure about this book.  I mean, a girl who can’t go outside of the house?  HOW EXCITING COULD THAT POSSIBLY BE?  NOT VERY.  However, I’ve been trying to expand a little and read things out of my comfort zone.  This sounds really unique and the fact that it’s in several different formats will probably make for a really fun read.
AND THIS COVER.

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Release Date: November 10th (go figure.  It should be the 9th)

Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

“Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?

I’ve only read one book by Colleen Hoover, but I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait for more.  And I HAD to post the whole synopsis because DOESN’T IT SOUND DO AMAZING?  YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO READ IT.
SO MANY AMAZING COVERS THIS YEAR.
Also, thanks Colleen Hoover for making anyone who ever thought or asked “When is November 9 coming out?” FEEL REALLY STUPID.  HELLO, IT’S IN THE TITLE.
Although, apparently now it’s coming out on the 10th.  Way to screw things up, publishing companies.

Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick

Release Date: November 10th

Genres: Mystery

“Stella Gordon is not her real name. Thunder Basin, Nebraska, is not her real home. This is not her real life.
After witnessing a lethal crime, Stella Gordon is sent to the middle of nowhere for her own safety before she testifies against the man she saw kill her mother’s drug dealer.

As Stella starts to feel safer, the real threat to her life increases—because her enemies are actually closer than she thinks…

Okay.  SO there are some haters for her other mystery book, Black Ice.  BUT I didn’t hate it and thought it was at enjoyable, even if it had some issues.
This one sounds even better and I LOVE the cover.
SHE’S THE ONLY WITNESS.  AND THEY ARE COMING BACK TO TIE UP LOOSE ENDS.  *DRAMATIC MUSIC*
BUT WAIT I'M CONFUSED HERE.  Is she testifying FOR the drug dealer?  BECAUSE DOESN'T THAT SEEM A LITTLE MESSED UP?

These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly

Release Date: October 27th

Genres: Mystery, Historical Fiction

“From Jennifer Donnelly, the critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of A Northern Lightand Revolution, comes a mystery about dark secrets, dirty truths, and the lengths to which people will go for love and revenge. For fans of Elizabeth George and Libba Bray, These Shallow Graves is the story of how much a young woman is willing to risk and lose in order to find the truth.

The past never stays buried forever. Life is dirtier than Jo Montfort could ever have imagined, and this time the truth is the dirtiest part of all.

SO MANY MYSTERIES.  THIS IS GOING TO BE A FUN YEAR.
And finding a mystery that’s also historical fiction is SO HARD so I’m very excited.  Historical Fiction and Mystery are two of my favorite genres and when you put the two together? AWESOMENESS.
So many books this year mention “revenge” in the synopsis.  AND I LOVE IT.
And I know I've said I loved almost every book cover in this post but I THINK THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE.

Pretending To Be Erica by Michelle Painchaud

Release Date: July 21st

Genres: Thriller, Contemporary

“We Were Liars meets Heist Society in a riveting debut!

Seventeen-year-old Violet’s entire life has revolved around one thing: becoming Erica Silverman, an heiress kidnapped at age five and never seen again. Violet’s father, the best con man in Las Vegas, has a plan, chilling in its very specific precision. Violet shares a blood type with Erica; soon, thanks to surgery and blackmail, she has the same face, body, and DNA. She knows every detail of the Silvermans’ lives, as well as the PTSD she will have to fake around them. And then, when the time is right, she “reappears”—Erica Silverman, brought home by some kind of miracle. But she is also Violet, and she has a job: Stay long enough to steal the Silverman Painting, an Old Master legendary in the Vegas crime world. Walking a razor’s edge, calculating every decision, not sure sometimes who she is or what she is doing it for, Violet is an unforgettable heroine, and Pretending to be Erica is a killer debut.”

Anything that “meets Heist Society” I’M IN FOR.
BUT REALLY, THESE PEOPLE DON’T MESS AROUND, DO THEY?  HOW DO YOU CHANGE SOMEONE’S DNA??
I will pretty much devour any book that had to do with crime/heist and you know I love a good thriller.  It also actually reminds me of Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan, but plus the heist angle.
This is her debut novel, so I’m very excited to check it out.

There are always so many books to talk about, yet only 10 spots.  Technically, I could have done more, but whatever.  Also, please check all of these books out on Goodreads for the full synopsis.

That was my top 10 Contemporary, Dystopian, and Mystery releases for the remainder of 2015.  What books are YOU most looking forward to? Let me know!

  2. So many good books coming out this year!
I'm excited for Zeroes too. I haven't read anything by him yet. I have the Uglies series but haven't got around to it.
Dangerous Lies sounds SO good too! I hadn't heard of that until now. The main character in Black Ice really annoyed me but I actually still quite liked the book even if, like you said, it has a lot of issues. I'm excited for this one now!

    1. I KNOW. I can hardly keep track of them all.
Same! I really need to read Uglies soon.
Black Ice had it's annoying qualities, but I still got what I came for: A fun, interesting, and suspenseful mystery.
I hope we enjoy all of these!
