What is A Night Divided about?
From New York Times bestselling author
Jennifer A. Nielsen comes a stunning thriller about a girl who must escape to
freedom after the Berlin Wall divides her family between east and west.
With the rise of the Berlin Wall, twelve-year-old Gerta finds her family divided overnight. She, her mother, and her brother Fritz live on the eastern side, controlled by the Soviets. Her father and middle brother, who had gone west in search of work, cannot return home. Gerta knows it is dangerous to watch the wall, to think forbidden thoughts of freedom, yet she can't help herself. She sees the East German soldiers with their guns trained on their own citizens; she, her family, her neighbors and friends are prisoners in their own city.
But one day, while on her way to school, Gerta spots her father on a viewing platform on the western side, pantomiming a peculiar dance. Then, when she receives a mysterious drawing, Gerta puts two and two together and concludes that her father wants Gerta and Fritz to tunnel beneath the wall, out of East Berlin. However, if they are caught, the consequences will be deadly. No one can be trusted. Will Gerta and her family find their way to freedom?

Why am I waiting for A Night Divided?
I haven’t read any historical fiction lately and I want to
start reading more of it again. I
already know that I like Jennifer Nielsen, as I read the first book in her
False Prince series and loved it. (I
really should continue that)
I’m super excited that she’s going to be doing a historical
fiction, and this book sounds quite different from her other ones.
I haven’t ever read anything set in Berlin during this time
either, which is exciting.
Are you waiting for A Night Divided,
too? Have you read any other books by Jennifer A. Nielsen? What are you waiting for?
Hm, I'm usually not much of a fan of more contemporary historical fiction (meaning taking place within the last century) but I'll admit this premise sounds interesting. I know next to nothing about the Berlin Wall and how the Soviet Union operated, so it might be cool to read a story about it and learn a bit while I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteNice blog! I'm a new GFC follower!

What's Your Story?
Same here! I'm interested to read this one and learn a little more about the Berlin Wall and such.
DeleteThanks<3
Oh intriguing... I had not heard of this book before now and am a fan of historical fiction and do not read enough contemporary stories in this genre. Thanks for the rec.

Yeah, I thought it sounded interesting too!
DeleteThis looks awesome!! I haven't read any historical fiction lately either but I think I'll give this one a try when it comes out!
ReplyDeleteI know right? Glad I could add another book to your TBR. I hope you get to read it and really enjoy it!
DeleteIt'd be disappointing if the dance his father did wasn't a call for them to go there.
ReplyDeleteMy Waiting on Wednesday
haha, I was actually thinking the same thing. How do you get that from a dance?
DeleteOoh this one looks interesting! Admittedly, I'm not very into historical fiction... but I HAVE been trying to branch out--so I'm quite looking forward to this one. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Yeah, I try to branch out into new genres sometimes too and I always end up liking them! I hope you enjoy this one!
DeleteI'm not a huge historical fiction fan so that could be why I never heard of this one. I'd like to see some review first because I'm picky about this genre. Hope you get it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, historical fiction can either be boring or really good. Thanks!
DeleteI didn't realize this was Jennifer Neilsen. It's very different for her but it sounds really good. Great pick!

This is the first that I've heard of this one but it definitely sounds good. I've not read a historical fiction in the longest time.
